Pleasant aromas in the house create an atmosphere of comfort, but the smells from foods such as garlic, stewed cabbage or fish can “turn” your apartment into a canteen or communal apartment, where everything smells at once. And it's not always very pleasant, bad smell in the kitchen.
It is important to get rid of such aromas in a timely manner so that they do not become permanent “residents” in your home. Here are some tips to combat them.
When cooking
Providing good ventilation while cooking is an effective method to prevent the spread of odors. Turn on the hood and make sure its filters are clean. To further remove odors, boiling water with lemon slices or a cup of 70% vinegar placed near the stove will help.
After cooking
Create a scented spray by mixing room temperature water with a few drops of scented oil and spritz around your home. Use scented candles or sticks to fill the space with pleasant scents.
On dishes
Use vinegar or lemon juice to remove odors from dishes. Wiping dishes with a citrus slice or leaving lemon in the plate for a while will effectively remove residual aromas. Treatment with a sponge soaked in 6-9% vinegar will give the same result. As a last resort, you can pour vinegar diluted in water (1:2 ratio) over the dishes overnight, cover with a lid, and rinse in the morning.
In a refrigerator
To neutralize odors in the refrigerator, wipe it with a solution of ammonia and water (half a tablespoon of alcohol and 200 ml of water). Ammonia can be replaced with 6-9% vinegar. All food from the refrigerator will need to be removed before processing, and after processing it will need to be left open for a while. Use odor absorbers as a preventative measure.
In the oven
There are also several very simple ways to clean the oven from odors. First: preheat the oven to 150 degrees, then turn it off and place a baking sheet with chopped pieces of black bread in it. After two hours, remove the pan and ventilate the oven. The second method involves a mixture of vodka and water in a ratio of 1:5, which you need to wipe the already washed oven. Dry with the door open.
Of course, the best prevention for maintaining a good atmosphere in the apartment is regular cleaning. Unpleasant odors come from greasy stains on surfaces, crumbs and small particles of food, and fat deposited on the surface of hoods. Wet cleaning and disinfection of kitchen surfaces and household appliances will keep your apartment fresh for a long time.
